Through Sonoma Couples Workshops
Professional Training Workshops in the Sonoma Wine County

These Gottman Professional Training Workshops provide research-based instruction and resources that can be incorporated into any couples therapist’s toolbox. Also, they can be used as steps along the path to certification as a Gottman Method Couples Therapist.

All trainings are co-led by Senior Certified Gottman Method Couples Therapists, Michael Basta, L.C.S.W. and Marcia Gomez, L.C.S.W. Both are Master Trainers and Consultants, and Art and Science of Love Workshop Mentors for the Gottman Institute.
We are currently offering Level 1: Bridging the Couple Chasm (next seminar April 8 & 9), Level 2: Assessment, Intervention and Co-Morbidities (next seminar July 21 through 23), and Level 3: Practicum Training (next seminar October 13 through 15) in Santa Rosa, California in the beautiful Sonoma wine country.


Gottman Level I:
Bridging the Couple Chasm


Two Day Training - 12 CE Hour's
Next Workshop: Friday and Saturday, April 8 and 9, 2016
As a result of taking this Training you, you will learn:
• How couples really sustain their marriages–in contrast to common myths and misconceptions
• How the quality of relationships affects the immune system, physical health and well being
• How marital problems change over time, but never go away–even in happy couples.
• Proven strategies and tools to help couples successfully manage conflict
• Skills that empower partners to dialogue about their worst gridlocked issues
• Approaches for multiple presenting co-morbidities including incest, the effects of poverty, PTSD and infidelity
• Methods to help couples process their fights and heal their hurts
• Techniques for couples to deepen their intimacy and minimize relapse
Participants will also receive a 300-page Manual featuring new relationship assessment questionnaires and clinical interventions that you can use immediately with your clients and a certificate of completion from the Gottman Institute

Gottman Level 2:
Assessment, Intervention, and Co-Morbidities

Three Day Training – 20 CE Hours
Next Workshop: Thursday through Saturday, July 21 - 23, 2016
Participants will be able to:
• Assess a couple’s “Friendship Profile,” “Conflict Profile,” and “Shared Meanings Profile”
• Develop interventions that couples can use as antidotes to the “Four Horsemen”
• Help couples to soothe physiological flooding.
• Apply six modes of changing the “Attack/Defend System” in a couple’s interactions
• Assist couples in establishing dialogue about their gridlocked conflicts.
• Select and implement interventions to help couples deepen their “Friendship System” with rituals of connection
• Select and implement interventions to help couples create a shared system of values and meaning
• Identify and implement five different co-morbidities common to couples using Gottman Assessments and Interventions
Participants will also receive a certificate of completion from the Gottman Institute.

Gottman Level 3:
Practicum Training


Three Day Training – 20 CE Hours
Next Workshop: Thursday through Saturday, October 13-15, 2016
Participants will be able to:
• Effectively use the Oral History Interview during a couple’s assessment and understand its implications
• Clearly explain to a couple their strengths and challenges in terms of the “Sound Relationship House”
• Help partners identify their own “Four Horsemen” and understand the antidotes
• Select and utilize appropriate tools to help a couple deepen their “Friendship System”
• Clarify a couple’s conflicts in terms of solvable, perpetual, and grid-locked problems
• Use the “Dreams Within Conflict” technique to help a couple feel hopeful and to achieve break-through with their perpetual conflict
• Successfully intervene when one or both partners are flooding
• Help a couple reach solutions using the Compromise Ovals intervention
• Sensitively intervene when co-morbidities are present
